A moment years in the making, the only sound was the echo of footsteps as Alastair Cho ‘15 stepped onto the squash court for the first time. Alastair competes on some of the most significant stages in the sport as a member of the Princeton University squash team and nationally ranked high school player at McDonogh School. This time, the stage was Hopkins Court in Calvert’s new Luetkemeyer Athletic Center.
Alastair hit the ceremonial first squash ball in the new facility in front of an audience that included his parents, Head Master Andrew Holmgren, and Squash Director Patrick Bedore. Alumni Clara Dawn ‘20, Parker Davis ‘21, and Michael Edwards ‘21 also returned to campus for this historic afternoon and helped launch a new era of Calvert squash, a program they each had a hand in building during their time in the Middle School. Eighth Grader Julianne Dawn hit the first squash ball by a current student.
Alumni will return to the Calvert squash courts for a round-robin tournament at the Founders’ Day Festival on Friday, October 7. Please contact Katie Wareheim ‘98, Director of Alumni Relations & Stewardship, if you want to play in the round robin.
