In Calvert's Lower School, children are group in grade levels chronologically, based on our birth cycle of June 1 to May 31. The majority of our students begin their 10-year journey in Fifth Age, Calvert School's equivalent of Kindergarten. True to its name, boys and girls in Fifth Age turn five years old the summer prior to entering Calvert School, or during the school year. Because of this model, all Fifth Age children matriculate to the Sixth Age and, in the subsequent year, to Seventh Age, Calvert's equivalent of First Grade.
Throughout each school year, students are challenged academically through developmentally appropriate academic groups while enjoying the social and emotional benefits of being in a class with their chronological peers.
