Congratulations to Jon Meredith '84 who was appointed the next Head of School at Charleston Day School, a Kindergarten through Eighth Grade independent school located in Charleston, SC! Jon brings three decades of experience as an educator to his new role. The announcement from Charleston Day School's Board of Trustees states, "Jon has a deep love for and familiarity with the K-8 model having attended the Calvert School in Baltimore."
On November 21, members of the Class of 2021, current high school seniors, returned to campus for a senior breakfast! This special event celebrated their Calvert foundation and the lasting bonds formed here.
During their visit, the alumni attended a Middle School assembly before sharing some of their own Calvert memories with the Middle School community. They also visited with teachers and explored both new and familiar spaces on campus.

Seventh Age, Eighth Age, and Sixth Grade science students enjoyed an out of this world visit from alumnus Larry Stifler ’53! Dr. Stifler and his wife Mary McFadden founded the Maine Mineral & Gem Museum which is home to the largest collection of meteorites and moon rocks.
Citing a love of math and science that began at Calvert, Dr. Stifler spoke about his journey to open the museum and the important discoveries they’ve made while examining the rocks and meteorites in their collection.
Calvert teams claimed first and second place in their division of the Saturnalia Certamen earlier this month, showcasing the students' understanding of Latin, mythology, and more.
At the December 7 competition, hosted by the Key School in Annapolis, Calvert's teams competed in the Novice division, where Quinn D. '25 and Alexander B. '25 clinched first place with an outstanding score of 505.
Right behind them were Seventh Graders Maggie G. '26, Arabella W. '26, and Brynn C. '26, who claimed second place and suffered only one loss — to their first-place schoolmates.
On Saturday, November 2, Calvert alumni were on both sidelines during the 108th annual football game between Gilman School and McDonogh School. While the rivalry was as strong as ever on the field, these alumni met after the game to take pictures and catch up. Once a Calvert kid, always a Calvert kid!
The high school admission process is in full swing! On October 1, Calvert held it's annual High School Night fair where Eighth Grade families had opportunities to speak with representatives from both day schools and boarding schools. Nearly 60 alumni returned to campus to serve as ambassadors for their high schools.
Mini Week is an exciting time each fall when Calvert Middle School students trade time in the classroom for off-campus activities, hands-on experiences, and outdoor adventures. This year, alumnus Joe Davies ‘74 hosted 18 students for a morning at Dunmore Farm in Monkton. Joe educated the students about horse training, fox hunting, and steeplechase racing, and spoke about the history, beauty, and challenges of these sports. The students walked through a gallery of photos showcasing racing throughout the years. They also watched clips of exciting finishes at the Maryland Hunt Cup!
From Baltimore to New York City, the bonds among Calvert alumni are strong! On October 23, alumni gathered at Castell Rooftop in New York for a "Welcome to the City" happy hour. The event connected recent college graduates and those new to the area with alumni who are established in the city. Alumni had the opportunity to network, reminisce about their Calvert years, and hear updates from campus.
This school year, 15 Calvert alumni come to campus each day to work in faculty, staff, and administrative roles. This group represents five decades and includes current Calvert parents and parents of graduates as well as past Trustees!
Corporate leader, business consultant, and author Rick Williams ‘55 will release a new book on September 10 titled CREATE THE FUTURE: Powerful Decision-Making Tools for Your Company and Yourself.

Congratulations to alumna Carter Arnot Polakoff '87 who was named to the Baltimore Business Journal's 2024 Women Who Mean Business list. Carter is the President and CEO of Port Discovery Children's Museum located downtown. One of 15 honorees selected this year, Carter was recognized for her leadership and impact in the greater Baltimore business community.
Prior to joining Port Discovery in 2020, Carter spent more than 20 years at working in development at Baltimore School for the Arts where she most recently served as Foundation & Development Director.

This year, we celebrated eight legacy families with a special photo following the Class of 2024 graduation ceremony.

Dedicated, determined, focused...fast. These are all words that can be used to describe Elise Cooper '21. "Future Olympian" just became significantly closer this month as Elise made it to the semifinal round of the women's 200m race at the U.S. Track & Field Olympic Team Trials in Eugene, OR. The only high schooler to qualify for the 200m, Elise demonstrated impressive poise in the preliminary and semifinal rounds. She ran a personal best of 22.71 seconds in the semis where she ran in the lane next to one of her idols Sha'Carri Richardson.
Congratulations to Wally Pinkard '92 who received the 2024 Kielty Award from the World Trade Center Institute. The award honors the organization's top team player as selected by staff votes.

The Class of 2024 will officially become Calvert alumni in six days! On May 23, the class gathered to learn about the Alumni Association and their opportunities upon graduation. The class also put their Calvert knowledge to the test with a bit of alumni trivia!
Each year, Calvert graduates impressive alumni who are well-equipped to tackle the upper school phase of their educational journey. This year, the Class of 2024 decided to attend 15 different schools, highlighting their diverse interests and skills.

Ask Bennett Espenshade ‘20 why he enjoys golf, and the answer is simple. “You can play the same course every day of your life, and no round will ever be the same. Perfection is impossible. There are so many things you can do [with golf] and so many different ways to play it. That has always just really intrigued me.”
When John Williams '17 arrived at Washington & Lee University in 2021, he quickly got involved with many of the organizations on campus - from University Ambassadors and Sigma Chi Fraternity to the Connolly Entrepreneurship Society. The one thing John felt was missing was the opportunity to play competitive squash.
