School menus are reviewed monthly by a nutritionist to ensure a balanced diet is offered while still serving child-friendly foods. One of our goals is having children try new and healthful foods. When available, we purchase our produce from local farms.
Calvert School regularly receives an outside audit to review proper food safety, handling, storage, and facility cleanliness in our cafeterias. We consistently rank in the top five of 125 independent schools audited, including a first place rating in the spring 2008 audit.
A nutritionist comes twice per year to the Middle School to work with our health classes, offering sessions on the importance of nutrition and other topics such as proper diet and nutrition for athletes, and healthy diet and body image for adolescent girls.
