Middle School Drama Teacher

Calvert School, an independent lower and middle school, has an opening for a full-time Drama Teacher for its Middle School for the 2025-26 school year. Calvert School is located in Tuscany-Canterbury, a residential neighborhood in Baltimore City, just north of Johns Hopkins University and south of Loyola University Maryland. The campus is easily accessible from Charles Street and I-83. 
 
The Drama Teacher will be responsible for teaching Drama to students in Fifth through Eighth Grades.
 
Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver engaging lessons on acting, theatre history, performance techniques, and other related subjects.
  • Help students build essential skills such as voice control, improvisation, and character development.
  • Oversee and direct school plays, productions, and performances, including choosing scripts, assigning roles, and guiding students through rehearsals. In the winter semester, direct a full-scale musical for Sixth through Eighth grade students with costumes, singing, and choreography.
  • Create a positive, supportive, and disciplined environment conducive to learning and creative expression.
  • Oversee the use and maintenance of theatre equipment and materials such as costumes, props, and stage settings.
 
Skills & Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Drama, Theatre Arts, or a related field.
  • Experience in teaching drama or acting, or professional experience in theatre performance.  Experience working with middle school students is strongly preferred. 
  • A passion for the arts and the ability to inspire and motivate students.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for teaching, directing, and providing feedback.
  • Ability to plan and organize classes, rehearsals, and performances effectively.
  • Must be proficient in advanced technical theatre applications for live theatre and music productions and have experience with theatre lighting, sound, and set design. 
Calvert School offers a competitive salary and benefits package.  Salaries for teachers are based on years of teaching experience, education, and job-related responsibilities. The salary range for teachers is $50,000 to $70,000 and candidates with additional teaching experience and/or advanced degrees may receive a higher salary.
