Lower School Librarian

Calvert School, an independent lower and middle school, has an opening for a full-time Librarian Teacher for its Lower School for the 2025-26 school year. Calvert School is located in Tuscany-Canterbury, a residential neighborhood in Baltimore City, just north of Johns Hopkins University and south of Loyola University Maryland. The campus is easily accessible from Charles Street and I-83. 
 
The Librarian will manage the lower school library and will oversee the circulation of all library materials for faculty and students. The Librarian will be responsible for maintaining an inviting setting and will coordinate the ordering and receiving of library resources. The Librarian will coordinate author visits, summer reading for students, March Madness Reading Challenge, and related assemblies. The Librarian will also teach reading classes to small groups of students in Kindergarten through Fourth Grade. In addition to teaching, faculty members at Calvert are expected to serve as academic advisors and contribute to the Calvert community as coaches and club advisors.  They are also required to serve on school committees on occasion.
 
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Library Information Science, Elementary Education, or in Reading or Literacy. Candidates should also have prior experience teaching lower school-aged students, as well as working knowledge of current practices in library media. Candidates must demonstrate an ability to support and instruct students in information literacy skills including reading, research, and critical thinking skills. Candidates must be able to demonstrate an ability to inspire and support students and must have excellent writing, interpersonal, and organizational skills. 
Calvert School offers a competitive salary and benefits package.  Salaries for teachers are based on years of teaching experience, education, and job-related responsibilities. The salary range for teachers is $50,000 to $70,000 and candidates with additional teaching experience and/or advanced degrees may receive a higher salary.
