Middle School Latin Teacher
Calvert School, an independent lower and middle school, has an opening for a full-time Latin Teacher for its Middle School for the 2025-26 school year. Calvert School is located in Tuscany-Canterbury, a residential neighborhood in Baltimore City, just north of Johns Hopkins University and south of Loyola University Maryland. The campus is easily accessible from Charles Street and I-83.
Latin is introduced to Seventh Grade students at Calvert School as a full credit course. This introductory level course provides students with an introduction to first-year grammar, relevant classical mythology, early Roman history, Roman culture, and classical geography. Successful completion of Latin I allows students the opportunity to place into Latin II in Eighth Grade. The teaching responsibilities will include Latin 1 and 2, in Seventh and Eighth grades. In addition to teaching, faculty members at Calvert are expected to serve as academic advisors and contribute to the Calvert community as coaches and club advisors. They are also required to serve on school committees on occasion.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s and a background teaching Latin. Prior experience teaching middle school aged students is preferred. Candidates must be able to demonstrate an ability to inspire and support students and must have excellent writing, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Calvert School offers a competitive salary and benefits package. Salaries for teachers are based on years of teaching experience, education, and job-related responsibilities. The salary range for teachers is $50,000 to $70,000 and candidates with additional teaching experience and/or advanced degrees may receive a higher salary.
