Calvert Community Honors Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. With Day of Service
On Monday, January 16th, we held our eighth annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. Over 280 community members joined together to participate in a variety of service activities in honor of Dr. King's vision and legacy.
The day began with an opening act which included teachers and students singing uplifting songs, our middle school acapella group, and middle school students as storytellers. The performance included interactive songs and stories that tied in to King’s message of giving and equality.
The entire Calvert community, which included parents, alumni, friends, relatives, and children, came together in helping each other make a difference. Seventh and Eighth Grade Leaders helped set up, organize and run activities and assisted with clean up. In addition to student leaders, our faculty, staff, and parents collaborated as activity leaders, organizing and running various projects that served our community. Our extended community included six students from Johns Hopkins University’s baseball team. This is the third year that they have joined us.
A special thank you to all the people who made this day possible:
Seventh and Eighth Grade students from Leadership Class and Diversity Club who helped set up on Saturday, and on Monday took pictures, registered participants, and assisted leaders and participants throughout the day.
Calvert Alumni who volunteered their morning to assist leaders: Celia Donner, Mia Macdonald, Jamie Wyskiel
Maintenance and Kitchen Staff: Napoleon Thompson & Eric Ashe
