Mighty Bees Dominate with Two First-Place Wins at Gilman Certamen

CAVETE APES! Beware the Mighty Bees!

On Saturday, February 1, Calvert Latin students tested their classical knowledge and linguistic mettle at the Gilman Certamen, where they came out on top with two phenomenal first-place trophies.

Eighth Graders Quinn D. ’25, Andrew D. ’25, Alexander B. ’25, and Alex M. ’25 claimed the top spot at the Intermediate level, which covers material through Latin II. Meanwhile, fellow Eighth Graders Lily M. ’25, Katherine Y. ’25, Ben F. ’25, and Alyssa W. ’25 rose above their fellow competitors to earn first place at the Novice level.

The group was supported by fellow Calvert entrants and scholars Hadley B. ’26, Maggie G. ’26, Brynn Caffrey ’26, and Jackson B. ’25, who also competed at the Novice level. Together with Arabella W. ’26, Maggie and Brynn previously earned second place in the Novice division at the Saturnalia Certamen in December.

In recognition of their prowess, our two winning teams each received a trophy to commemorate their win. Great job to our student scholars!
