Middle Schoolers Hit the Mat as Wresting Returns to Calvert

For the first time more than a decade, Calvert School has a competitive wrestling team!

Director of Athletics Phil D'Adamo, coaches Bill Hardy and Matthew Gallo '15, and a handful of proactive students recently revived the program to join basketball and squash as one of this year's winter offerings.

The newly created team is made up of Middle Schoolers Patrick T. '25, Zina N. '27, Lucas B. '27, and Owen A. '28, and the program is enhanced by a partnership with Friends School, which provides practice opportunities and more.
On Wednesday, January 15, the Mighty Bees joined forces with Friends for a meet at Boys' Latin, where Calvert claimed three match wins. This meet marked Calvert's first competitive wrestling appearance in approximately 15 years.

"These four took a chance and tried something new and different. They stepped out of their comfort zones and tried this sport even when others didn't," Coach D'Adamo said of the students. "They've worked hard, and they got a chance to put that to work."

As the season continues, the team will take on Gilman (January 22) and the School of the Incarnation (January 30) at Gilman and Friends, respectively. We hope you will join us in cheering for our Calvert wrestlers!
