The Calvert community donned their finest black and gold on October 7, 2022, for a day of celebrations honoring the School’s 125th anniversary and the official opening of the Luetkemeyer Athletic Center. Calvert families, alumni, trustees, and employees came together to mark this special moment in the School’s history.
The day began with the dedication of the new Luetkemeyer Athletic Center, recognizing alumnus Jack Luetkemeyer ‘53 and his wife, Susie, for their leadership commitment to the Calvert 125 Campaign and the new athletic center. Those in attendance heard from Head Master Andrew Holmgren and Board Chair Ned Insley and watched Cullen Little ‘15 play a showcase squash match against Director of Squash Patrick Bedore on the new Hopkins Court.
The school-wide spirit day continued with a Middle School pep rally where Eighth Grade student leaders emceed the event and energized the crowd. Fall athletics teams took center stage to rousing cheers from students and teachers.
Our student athletes took their energy from the pep rally and went straight to Krongard Field for a football game against St. Paul’s Schools and to the Middle School Gymnasium for two volleyball games against Boys’ Latin. Alumni and friends gathered on the new squash courts for a round robin tournament, players were Matt Buck ’87, John Brush, Myles Brush ’23, Clara Dawn ‘20, Peter Dewire ‘08, Jennifer Hearn ‘04, Caroline Chriss Hearn '07, Ben Hearn ’07, Jessica Winicki Kallaugher ‘96, Lauren Murphy, Heath Otenasek ‘17, Susie Silberstein, and Will Vincent ‘18.
In addition to the athletic events, festival goers enjoyed BBQ, popcorn, Kona Ice, carnival games, pumpkin painting, bounce houses and much more on campus and throughout the afternoon.
