John Webster ‘82 Runs Calvert Middle School Girls’ Winter Indoor Lacrosse League
John Webster ‘82 knows a thing or two about lacrosse. An All-American during his time at Boys’ Latin, he went on to earn All-ACC and All-American honors at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill where he helped the Tar Heels win four ACC championships and the 1991 National Championship. This winter, John brings his expertise to campus for the Calvert Middle School Girls Winter Indoor Lacrosse League (CWILL) providing detailed instruction focused on player improvement.
The CWILL plays in the field house of the Luetkemeyer Athletic Center. The season kicked off on November 19 with a preseason skills-based clinic. The league follows the "Sixes" format developed by World Lacrosse and emphasizes tempo with continuous play by everyone on both sides of the field (defense and offense), thus leading to more touches on the ball than would be the case in a traditional field game. Teams will compete in a five week long round-robin to establish playoff seedings leading up to the championship game on January 21.
Players had an opportunity to work with a special guest coach on November 26 when John’s daughter Isabelle Webster ‘13 stopped by to work with the teams. Isabelle played high school lacrosse at McDonogh School before playing collegiately at Yale University. Isabelle received the 2021 Nick Colleluori Award which goes to the teammate who exhibits the same selflessness, team spirit, and relentlessness that Colleluori displayed both on and off the field.
