Middle School English Teacher

Calvert School, an independent lower and middle school, has an opening for a full-time English Teacher for its Middle School for the 2025-26 school year. Calvert School is located in Tuscany-Canterbury, a residential neighborhood in Baltimore City, just north of Johns Hopkins University and south of Loyola University Maryland. The campus is easily accessible from Charles Street and I-83. 

 

We are seeking qualified candidates who will be responsible for teaching Seventh Grade English. Focusing on novels based around the theme coming of age, students maintain a writing journal in which they respond to selected texts, write creatively and have time for personal writing. The English Teacher will help to foster students’ love of reading, believing that those who commit to literature not only master writing, vocabulary, and grammar techniques, but also encounter diverse perspectives of the world. In addition, critical reading skills are taught through teacher-guided interactions with texts.

 

In addition to teaching, faculty members at Calvert are expected to serve as academic advisors and contribute to the Calvert community as field trip chaperones, coaches, and club leaders. They are also required to serve on school committees on occasion.

 

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s in English and a Master’s degree is preferred. Prior experience teaching middle school aged students is a plus. Candidates must be able to demonstrate an ability to inspire and support students and must have excellent writing, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
