Middle School Learning And Support Coordinator
Calvert School, an independent lower and middle school, has an opening for a full-time Middle School Learning and Support Coordinator for the 2025-26 school year. Calvert School is located in Tuscany-Canterbury, a residential neighborhood in Baltimore City, just north of Johns Hopkins University and south of Loyola University Maryland. The campus is easily accessible from Charles Street and I-83.
The Learning and Support Coordinator reports to the Head of Middle School and works in partnership with families and teachers to provide academic support and services to all middle school students. This role emphasizes fostering a culture of inclusion and developing research-based instructional practices to improve academic achievement and educational outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Develop a schedule for regular check-ins with students and teachers to evaluate the progress of Student Support Plans. Assist faculty in designing and implementing lesson plans and curriculum to meet the needs of students and their learning styles.
- Work closely with educational evaluators and other outside professionals on behalf of students and families.
- Work with teachers to develop and implement support plans and serve as an essential point of contact with families. Help teachers and students address individual learning differences.
- Coordinate regular reading assessments for students in order to gauge progress.
- Work with the school counselor to coordinate efforts to work with students in need of additional support. Serve as an advocate for students and families.
- Provide direct instruction to individual and small groups of students.
- Make appropriate referrals to outside tutoring and/or academic coaching that may be needed.
- Oversee the administration of standardized testing in the Middle School and interpret test scores and communicate results with parents. Incorporate data from report cards, behavioral records, and standardized testing in the development of Student Support Plans.
- Contribute to the Calvert community in other ways as a coach, club advisor, field trip leader, and/or by serving on committees on occasion.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Expertise and understanding of how to differentiate course materials, curriculum, and instruction emphasizing literacy instruction along with assessment strategies.
- Knowledge/experience in interpreting psycho-educational evaluations and deriving appropriate learning plans from them in partnership with professional evaluators and families.
- Knowledge of unique student populations such as students with anxiety, ADHD, and executive functioning challenges.
- Support colleagues and work collaboratively with small and large teams to best meet the needs of all students.
- Ability to communicate in writing and verbally, resolve conflict, and effectively work with staff, students, and parents. Must be able to organize, prioritize, and manage work assignments efficiently and within established times.
- Must have the ability to work with independence in dealing with the diverse elements of the academic environment. This position requires absolute confidentiality and professionalism.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in special education or related field is required. A Master’s degree is preferred.
- At least three years’ experience as a learning specialist or a related role.
Calvert School offers a competitive salary and benefits package. The salary range is $70,000 to $90,000 and are based on years of experience, education, and job-related responsibilities. Calvert School offers medical, prescription, dental, vision, life, disability, and retirement plans. Generous leave that includes paid holidays, sick, and personal leave days is also offered. This is a 10-month position.
