Calvert @ Bryn Mawr

In a splendid return to form, Calvert took it to a strong Bryn Mawr team and made a close game look like a blow out. It took us a bit of time to get our legs under as, as Bryn Mawr came out dominating possession. We were on our back foot for the first ten minutes or so before settling down. Once that happened, the chances started to appear. Unlike our last game, we were able to capitalize. The first goal came in the 17th minute. Daly took a fantastic shot on goal which bounced near the goal line, but didn't quite go in. Fortunately, Tucker was in the right spot, and she had the easiest goal of her prolific career. We didn't have to wait long for the next goal, as Tobin followed up that put back with an absolute cracker in the 19th minute. The Bryn Mawr defenders didn't realize who they were dealing with as they left her with too much space from outside the box and Tobin let it rip into the upper corner for what could be the goal of the year and her 9th of the season.
At half time we knew we had a 2-0 lead, but we didn't want to depend on that after what happened last year. We wanted to come out and win the second half to put the game away, but Bryn Mawr had similar ideas. Our defense had to stand strong, which is exactly what they did. Bramble was everywhere on defense, snuffing out attack after attack before they could even get started. Athey protected her goal with aplomb, making multiple saves on shots that a lesser keeper wouldn't have had a chance to reach. We even had Ulz, a new addition to our team, put in a strong effort at right back, doing a wonderful job stopping any attacks coming down her sideline and winning balls in the air. It was a master class all around. Finally, in the 45th minute, we won the second half just as we set out to do. This time it was Daly, with career goal number 17, who cleaned up a defensive mistake and placed a shot beautifully in the side netting to give us a 3-0 lead. It was a great way to end our regular season and one of our best played games of the year.
We have a bit of a break now until playoffs start, so everyone get rested and healthy!
