Calvert vs Jemicy

Another day, another big win. Calvert once again steamrolled the opposition, while still showing class and sportsmanship by not running up the score in the second half. It was a wonderful display of possession, and one that even prompted a call from a parent on the opponent's side, complimenting us on the way we handled the match.
Speaking of the match, we came out firing, determined not to underestimate them like we did last year. Within the first 6 minutes, Tobin already had herself a brace. The first goal came when she won the ball in a dangerous position and was able to beat the keeper in a 1v1 situation. The second goal came after a long run up the left wing and a smooth finish. About five minutes later, Walton got on the board with what I believe was a shot between the keeper's legs. That was followed quickly by Green sending Mangum with a nice pass, and Mangum getting her first goal of the season. There was a bit of a break in scoring at this point, as our team did a nice job moving the ball around and defending. Rodgers and Borg held the back line well, while our defensive mids helped keep everyone connected. In the last five minutes of the half, Tobin finished off her hat trick, tapping in a pass (shot?) on an empty net from Daly that beat everyone across the box. Finally, Woodworth grabbed our final goal with a beautiful shot off of a rebound to give us 6 in the half.
Just like Monday, the second half was all about keeping possession and working on passing. The way we moved the ball around really showed our quality, and will serve us well when it's time to play against a stronger opponent. The outfield players got to try new positions and we gained confidence in keeping our shape. Unfortunately, we weren't able to keep the clean sheet, as Jemicy scored twice in the last two minutes as we lost the ball in dangerous positions to their strongest player both times, and she was able to put quality shots past a keeper who had no chance. It was a lesson in keeping your edge and staying mentally in the game until the end, but in the end we still got the win. We're back for our first away game on Monday, see you then!
