For the first time this season, we met our match. We came up against a very strong Dumbarton team, were down two players, but still managed to put up a respectable score line. In the first half, we made it almost until half time without giving up a goal. Dumbarton kept trying to break through, but our defense stopped them at every turn, forcing a lot of long range attempts. It wasn't until the 20th minute when they were able to break through, and we went down 1-0, which was our score at half. We knew we had to come out tougher if we wanted to try to get back into the game in the second half, and we started off pretty well. We had our best sequence coming out of half and were able to apply some pressure. Again, our defense continued to hold, and Wilson and Stevens stood out in the defensive midfield. Finally, in the 37th minute, Daly was able to get the ball to Tobin on the right wing. She took a few touches before blasting it at the keeper. Despite getting her hands on it, the shot was too strong to be denied and we had tied it! Unfortunately, that only lasted five minutes. Dumbarton got a corner in the 42nd minute, and a beautiful finish at the back post put them ahead, and they kept that lead until the end. Again, it was a great effort against a strong team. We probably won't play another squad that strong this season, so it was good getting the experience. With that said, it's time to look forward. Two games next week, and then just a few practices until playoffs!
