Certamen Team Competes at University of Pennsylvania
Twelve Middle School students traveled to the University of Pennsylvania on April 6 to represent Calvert School at the second Penn Certamen, a quiz-bowl competition that tests students’ knowledge of Greek and Roman mythology, ancient history, Latin, and more.
Two of Calvert’s three teams advanced to the semi-final round in the Novice bracket — a first for Calvert in a national competition. Overall, Calvert teams finished in sixth (Teddy M. '24, Evan L. '24, Viv B. '24, and Quinn D. '25), ninth (Landry W. '24, Ben F. '25, Alexander M. '25, and Luke F. '25), and eleventh places (Lily M. '25, Walker P. '25, Silas F. '25, and Grayson B. '25)
According to Magister Jeff Snow, Calvert Latin teacher, 51 teams from 23 schools across six states competed at UPENN, and 15 total teams competed in Calvert's bracket.

In addition to competing, the students also had the opportunity to tour the Penn Museum, which is located on UPENN's campus. Next, the students are preparing for their final competition of the year, the Maryland State Convention in Easton, MD.
