Hello Beekeepers,
St Ignatius was coming to our Krongard hive for our second game in as many days. The coaching staff had never faced this opponent. It is also important to notice that for this game, only three substitute were available.
We decided to kept our 3-5-2 formation, knowing that some players would have to cover in positions they were not familiar with.
Even though not all players were in their usual position, our bees passing game developed well and the defense resisted to St Ignatius attempt to send their fast forward in the depth.
The first half was concluded with a lead of 2-0 for our bees.
If the team worked in the first weeks on how to send the ball away from the danger with the passing in the defensive line, the last days at practice and games were focused on the attacking strategies. The coaching team insisted that the key to success was variation in our attacks, and patience.
The bees were strong on the use of the wings to spread the defense, but they insisted too much, forgetting that sometimes, the fastest way is straight. After many attacks on the wings, St Ignatius defense naturally spread, leaving open space in the middle of the field for through ball.
The half time talk was insisting on doing the variation. And when the game resumed, the domination was still on for our bees. Two goals rewarded the efforts, but it was clear for all that in many instance, the ball could have been used better. On a few occasions, the bees were to quick to send the ball forward, without spreading the defense. It is good to see has a coach that the players realized it, and were frustrated at the end. But they kept going, playing as quick as they could the last corner on an attempt to score.
Well done bees! In the after game talk, we all agree to be patient to build our attack. Like corn Farmer from Iowa, our Bees were told about their goals: if you built it, they will come!
