For more than 125 years, Calvert School has put students first by pioneering a robust age-appropriate program that meets every child exactly where they are in their development. Under our co-ed, K-8 model, Calvert boys and girls learn and grow under the guidance of teachers who deeply understand the unique developmental needs of elementary and middle school students. They thrive in our tight-knit community and become confident leaders through participation in our rich co-curriculars and engaging curriculum that challenge their young minds.

At Calvert, our K-8 model informs everything we do. In the Lower School, small class sizes and age-based academics ensure that every child receives the specialized care and guidance they need to master the fundamentals. Later, as our boys and girls transition to the Middle School, enriching clubs and athletics build on these foundations, fostering a spirit of lifelong learning and leadership in each of our Mighty Bees.
As the oldest students on campus, Calvert Middle Schoolers are entrusted with valuable opportunities – like community outreach, leadership roles working with younger students, and interscholastic athletics – that are typically reserved for high school students. Throughout their 10-year journey with us, they learn to engage with their own educational journey, learning how to learn, and preparing them to actively participate in their high school and college endeavors.
Renowned for our strong academics and emphasis on important social and emotional skills, Calvert School offers a co-ed, K-8 program that seamlessly blends tradition and innovation.
From our earliest days, Calvert has always believed that young, elementary-aged children have the ability to learn and achieve more. To that end, our time-tested approach pays close attention to a child’s earliest education, ensuring that these years are filled with enriching, age-specific programming that teaches students to practice and master the fundamentals.
From there, our challenging Middle School curriculum expands those lessons, introducing robust clubs, athletics, and activities that further learning by combining in-class methods with outside passions. At every grade level, boys and girls are given opportunities to exercise empathy and participate in community outreach and leadership roles. These moments encourage students to embrace responsibility and discover ways in which they can use their voice to impact the world around them – and that is just the beginning.
Under our K-8 structure, Middle School students naturally become role models for our youngest boys and girls, a relationship that empowers the older students to mature as leaders. In a co-ed environment like Calvert’s, boys and girls become accustomed to seeing each other rise and fall, struggle and succeed, and they learn to associate it with individual strengths and weaknesses, not gendered traits. They also forge diverse friendships that widen their view of the world and help them learn empathy, preparing them to build healthy relationships and communicate effectively in the years ahead.
